Online learning and collaboration

Engage with other regulators, get training, and build a better understanding of regulation with RegRoom, our online learning and collaboration space.

RegRoom

Our online learning and collaboration space, RegRoom, is a dedicated place for the regulatory community in New Zealand to meet, connect, share, and grow. The name emphasises collaboration, learning, and building regulatory capability together in a supportive space.

You'll find a comprehensive range of resources to support you in your work as a regulator there.

Sign up for RegRoom

RegRoom is available to people who work in regulation in New Zealand, but we are aware there may be some access issues. These will be addressed in the new year. If you encounter any problems accessing RegRoom, please email us at capability@regulation.govt.nz.

Following user testing, we know the following agencies have access: CAA, Inland Revenue Department, Maritime, the Commerce Commission, Taumata Arowai, NZ Transport Agency and Financial Markets Authority.

Click on the button below to start the sign-up process, then follow the onscreen prompts to set up your account. You'll be required to add in your home agency login credentials and may need to set up multi-factor authentication too. If you need help to complete the sign-up process, check out our user guide.

Our online learning modules – which the Quick Guides act as companions to – can be accessed through our online learning and collaboration space, RegRoom.

What's in RegRoom

RegRoom holds our online learning modules, and – from 2025 – will also be where we host our Communities of Practice.

Online learning

We’ve created a set of free online learning modules that regulators can access at any time, which teach the fundamentals of regulatory practice. They’re intended to give you a better understanding of the regulatory environment we have here in New Zealand. They provide practical tips and learnings, and walk you through the kind of real-life scenarios you could face in your everyday work in regulation. You can:

  • access the learning modules in your own time, and at your own pace
  • pick and choose the modules that suit your work best
  • track your progress as you go.

We have six training modules available:

  1. Regulation in New Zealand
  2. Regulatory compliance activities
  3. Regulatory systems and stewardship
  4. Professional conduct
  5. Engaging as a regulator
  6. Communicating with Regulated Parties

Collaboration

We host a range of Communities of Practice where regulators can connect with others working in regulation in New Zealand. We’ll be moving our Communities of Practice into RegRoom in early 2025 – until then you’ll find details of our current Communities of Practice here on our website.
