Social media terms of use

We use social media to communicate and engage with people about our work. These terms of use apply to all our social media accounts, unless otherwise specified.

How we use our social media channels

We use LinkedIn as our primary social media channel.

Ministry for Regulation – LinkedInopen_in_new

We provide our followers with regular updates, including:

  • our latest news
  • information about who we are and what we do
  • opportunities to provide feedback on our regulatory reviews and other engagement activities.

We may follow or like accounts held by other organisations and individuals if they’re relevant to our organisation. We may also choose to repost or mention information created by other organisations and individuals if we think our followers will find it useful. However, this does not imply endorsement, or guarantee the accuracy of their information.

Posts made by others to our social media channels are the responsibility of that person, or the organisation they represent. They don't necessarily reflect the opinions or policy of the Ministry.

When you engage with us on our social media channels, you are considered to have agreed to the conditions of use of the particular social media channel and our individual page or account.

Acceptable use

We aim to ensure our social media channels are professional and inclusive. As such, we reserve the right to remove any content from our channels that we consider to be:

  • offensive or abusive
  • irrelevant to our work
  • a breach of legislation, copyright or intellectual property rights
  • discriminatory
  • politically biased
  • spam
  • a reference to commercial activity, including advertising.

We may report, block or ban anyone who:

  • posts content or comments that meet these criteria
  • breaches either our terms of use, or the terms of use of the relevant social media platform.

Monitoring

Our social media accounts are monitored during our business hours, which are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm. We don’t monitor social media outside of these times.

We welcome feedback and comments from our followers and try to engage in conversation with them where possible. We aim to respond to feedback on our social media channels as soon as possible during business hours, though we can’t guarantee we’ll be able to respond to everyone individually. However, we will review replies or comments made to us, and pass any emerging themes or helpful suggestions to the relevant people in the Ministry.

Copyright

Unless indicated otherwise, the material we make available on our social media channels is protected by Crown copyright. This means you’re free to copy, distribute and adapt the material, as long as you attribute it to us, and abide by the terms of our copyright policy.
