Our progress continues
Since our official set-up on 1 March 2024, the Ministry for Regulation has made considerable progress in its development and operational capacity.
About regulatory reviews
We want rules and regulations to enable New Zealanders to do more – to lead to a more productive use of people’s time, and better outcomes for all.
Raise a red tape issue
Regulatory issues can now be raised directly with us as part of the Government’s drive to cut red tape for New Zealanders who want to get things done.
Our work
The Ministry for Regulation is the central steward of New Zealand’s Regulatory Management System. We work with other regulators across the public sector to improve the quality of regulation so all New Zealanders can flourish.
Our te reo name
The Ministry for Regulation worked with Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Māori – The Māori Language Commission to develop a te reo Māori name to sit alongside our English name. The name suggested by Te Taura Whiri is Te Manatū Waeture.

When working through this guide please note the term ‘regulator’ applies to all RS roles, not just the regulator role in RS.
