No more missing out on medical conferences
29 April 2025

We’ve completed a rapid review of the rules around ads for yet to be approved medicines at medical trade shows, and found that the rules were effectively stopping many trade shows and conferences from being held in NZ.
We heard from BusinessNZ and Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) that New Zealand could be missing out on as much as $90 million in potential revenue over the next few years.
We met with Medsafe and the Ministry of Health, and provided advice to Ministers on potential changes. Today Regulation Minister David Seymour, Health Minister Simeon Brown and Tourism and Hospitality Minister Louise Upstonopen_in_new say these laws will be reformed so medicines yet to be consented by Medsafe can be advertised at medical conferences in New Zealand – cutting red tape and creating a great economic opportunity for the industry.
