If feedback from members of the public over the past week on their red tape issues is anything to go by, it’s clear there are plenty of examples of regulation getting in the way of people getting things done.

Since the launch of our online portal last week, where people can provide feedback on red tape issues, we’ve received over 300 reports. Feedback has come from industries such as building and construction and traffic management, through to education and training. We’ve even been contacted by cake makers.

Our review team are busy triaging, reviewing, engaging with and reporting back to submitters. Some of the issues reported are more complex than others and they will take time to look into thoroughly. Some of the issues reported may contribute collectively to the bigger picture of where future regulatory review is required.

There will be a range of different options the Ministry can take to address the issues raised, including targeted conversations with regulatory agencies about changes needed, providing the Minister for Regulation with advice to discuss regulatory issues with his ministerial colleagues, considering the topics for future larger scale regulatory reviews, and proposing legislative change.

If you have feedback about a red tape issue or opportunity for improvement you want us to know about, tell us about it on our engagement hub.
