Big response to first regulatory review

We have received an overwhelming response in our call for feedback on our first regulatory review.
We have received an overwhelming response in our call for feedback on our first regulatory review. More than 740 submissions have been collected in the first 20 days of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) regulatory review.
Due to the significant interest and the valuable feedback received, Minister for Regulation David Seymour has asked us to extend the engagement period. This decision allows more time for stakeholders to provide their insights and suggestions. Engagement now closes on 31 August.
Key insights from the feedback include:
- parents: desire for more types of ECE, easier access, and more affordable options. Some parents also advocate for fewer children per teacher
- teachers: requests for reduced compliance-based paperwork, limits on group sizes, and fewer children per adult
- providers: concerns about inconsistent application of regulatory requirements and the distinction between regulatory requirements and guidance.
The early childhood education sector is our first regulatory review. It’s important for interested stakeholders to have their say because quality early childhood education can be transformational for children, their parents, and society.
Feedback can be given through our engagement hub.
The information gathered during the engagement period will inform a Cabinet paper at the review’s conclusion.
