Official Information Act requests
You can make a request for information that the Ministry for Regulation (the Ministry) holds under the Official Information Act.
Before you make an Official Information Act (OIA) request, it’s worth checking to see if the information you’re looking for is already publicly available. We proactively release information considered to be of interest to the public – check out our publications library to see if the information you need is already available.
How to make an OIA request
To request official information from the Ministry, you can either:
- email us at hello@regulation.govt.nz, or
- write to us at OIA requests, Ministry for Regulation, PO Box 577, Wellington 6140.
As part of your request, make sure you tell us:
- your name
- your preferred contact details
- the full details of the information you would like to see.
How we respond to OIA requests
We respond to all OIA requests as soon as possible, and in line with our legislative timeframes. You should receive an acknowledgement of your request within 5 working days.
If the information you requested is considered to be of public interest, we may also publish the response here on our website.
Making a complaint
You can make a complaint if you feel the Ministry has not met its obligations to you under the Official Information Act. You can either:
- contact us directly at hello@regulation.govt.nz with your complaint, or
- submit a complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman.
